boAt's marketing strategy needs to be read alongside its distribution. Imagine Marketing's public filing describes brand identity, celebrity and influencer collaborations, brand partnerships and campaigns. It also describes sales through marketplaces, offline channels and its own website. A brand message becomes commercially useful when a buyer can find a suitable product where they want to shop.

For a smaller Indian brand, the lesson is to connect the audience, product promise and purchase destination before expanding promotion. Build the campaign around an available product and the contribution it earns after the channel's costs.

01. What boAt's public filing reveals

The Imagine Marketing Updated Draft Red Herring Prospectus-I, dated 28 October 2025, describes the marketing approach on printed page 131 and channel concentration on printed page 30. The figures below cover Imagine Marketing's consolidated business.

FY2025 disclosureReported figureMetric scope
Advertising and promotion expenses₹389.72 crore, rounded from ₹3,897.18 millionConsolidated advertising and promotion expense
Revenue from the top two online marketplaces55.29% of revenue from product salesShare of product-sales revenue

The filing includes visibility spending, digital marketing and influencer and celebrity costs within promotion expenses. Read the collaboration strategy alongside channel concentration: creating demand and managing availability are connected operating decisions.

02. boAt marketing mix: product choice does a job

The public wireless earbuds collection, checked on 06 November 2026, offers filters around use cases and features, including gaming, travel, noise cancellation and fast charging. The collection organises product choice around situations in which a buyer will use the earbuds.

Turn your product catalogue into a decision aid. A long specification sheet can describe an item without helping a buyer choose it. Start with the situation in which a person needs the product. Identify which differences matter in that situation and explain those differences in ordinary language.

For a brand selling a technical product, build a comparison that helps a buyer rule options out. Specify the limitation of the entry product as clearly as the benefit of a premium one. If a feature depends on operating conditions, show those conditions. A blanket performance claim may get a click while creating an expectation the product cannot reliably meet.

Keep the assortment manageable for the team as well. Every additional variant creates a requirement for accurate stock, product information and support. The right lesson from a large catalogue is a question about choice architecture. A smaller brand should earn its range through customer need and operational capacity rather than copying the number of products it sees elsewhere.

03. boAt influencer marketing: define the commercial job

The filing describes collaborations as part of brand building. For your own programme, give each partnership a commercial job and decide how you will measure it before agreeing the creative.

For your own plan, write down why a particular creator belongs in the campaign. An audience relationship can help make the product relevant. A specialist demonstration can help explain a feature. A recognisable face can help attention. Each role needs different evidence, so do not merge them into a single follower-count selection rule.

Make the brief useful at the product level. Name the audience, buying situation and claim that can be demonstrated honestly. Agree the deliverables and the intended destination. Decide whether the asset will appear only on the creator's channel or also in your own paid advertising, and settle usage permissions before production.

A practical review asks whether the product remains understandable when the recognisable person is removed. If the remaining message says little about why to buy, the campaign may need a stronger product argument. Use that review to sharpen the product demonstration before production.

Track returned and cancelled orders alongside the original attributed purchases. A creator asset can attract curious viewers who are not suitable customers. Reporting only the first order can hide that mismatch. Record what the asset promised so the team can compare it with the reasons customers later give for returning the product.

04. Connect the message with an available destination

Put the purchase destination inside the creative brief. A product can be attractive in an advertisement and still lose a sale if the destination is unavailable, difficult to understand or inconsistent with the promise.

Use the following worksheet before a promotion:

CheckDecision to record
ProductThe exact item and variant being promoted
AvailabilityThe stock and serviceable locations behind the promise
DestinationThe page that keeps the ad's context intact
OfferThe actual payable price and purchase conditions
EconomicsContribution after the channel's variable costs
MeasurementHow fulfilled sales and returns will be reconciled

Do the review for every destination you intend to use. Your own store and a marketplace listing can give different answers to the same buyer question. A listing may have a stronger review base while your store offers a more detailed demonstration. Evaluate the role of each using evidence from your business rather than assigning a universal winner.

During a promotion, nominate someone to check the destination when stock or prices change. Record the change so a performance review does not confuse an unavailable variant with a weak creative. Keep a list of acceptable replacement destinations before traffic needs to be moved. Keep every destination consistent with the promise in the ad.

05. A promotion test with contribution arithmetic

Illustrative worked example. Assume a product leaves ₹1,200 of net revenue after discounts and excluding tax, with the following illustrative costs:

Item per delivered orderIllustrative amount
Net revenue₹1,200
Product cost₹500
Channel, payment and fulfilment costs₹220
Expected return and warranty allowance₹80
Contribution before acquisition and fixed overhead₹400

If production and creator costs for a campaign total ₹40,000, it needs 100 additional delivered orders at that contribution to cover those campaign costs. Paid distribution would add to the requirement. A lower realised price or higher return cost reduces the available contribution.

Build the example with your own inputs before signing a campaign. Use the actual channel fees and a justified allowance for returns. Include tax treatment and fixed operating costs in the wider business model with your finance team.

Write the measurement plan before publication. Tagged orders help trace a route, but some may have occurred without the campaign. Compare an exposed audience with a suitable baseline to estimate additional orders. Keep attributed orders in a separate field so both measures remain useful.

The operator's read: make the product easy to choose where the buyer shops.

06. What a smaller brand should leave out

Avoid using a large company's total promotion spending as your budget target. It combines activities and operates across a business you do not own. A sensible budget comes from the contribution your offer can generate, the question a test will answer and the loss the business can tolerate while learning.

Avoid copying recognisable creative elements without the product context. A campaign may depend on a licensing agreement, a specific audience relationship or a distribution plan you cannot reproduce. Study the decision the creative helps a buyer make, then create your own way to answer it with evidence you can substantiate.

Keep promotion and assortment decisions connected. If a new campaign requires an additional product variant, include the cost of supporting that variant in the decision. Demand that briefly looks attractive can still leave the team with slow-moving inventory or a service problem after the campaign ends.

Keep the stock plan beside the campaign calendar. Check that every promoted variant can be fulfilled and that customer support understands the offer conditions. When a product runs out, pause its promotion or switch to a relevant available item with matching creative. Review those interruptions with the results so the next campaign starts with a better availability plan.

07. Turn this study into a decision

Choose a product that you can reliably fulfil. Inspect the promise in its current creative, then follow the actual buying route on a phone. Note the first material uncertainty the visitor encounters. That uncertainty is a more useful test brief than an instruction to make the campaign look like a famous brand.

Write the assumption, the proposed change and the evidence needed to retain it. Keep enough of the offer stable to interpret the result. After the test, reconcile fulfilled orders and contribution before increasing the commitment. A decision log should make it possible for someone else to understand why the next step follows.
